I recently received my first Glossybox and I wanted to do a quick review of what I received. Glossybox is a beauty subscription box that is $21/month; however, I got mine for a deal on Rue La La–6 months for 95 dollars (Just about $16/month). Glossybox describes itself as being on the luxury end of subscription boxes, which I am excited about. I’ve had mixed experiences with the subscription box concept before. But…I feel like by the end of my 6 month deal I will have a fairly thorough impression on the brand and if it’s something I would like to continue receiving and paying for.
Emite Micronized Eyeshadow in DAMS– $18
(Glossybox valued this at $27, but I found it on the Emite website for $18)
I am unfamiliar with this brand, but from what I can tell on their website, this brand sounds kind of like a Swedish MAC. I was very impressed with the feel of the shadow when I swatched it; it was incredibly, incredibly soft and fairly pigmented. I am excited to use it, who doesn’t need a basic black shadow?

Proganix Cherry Blossom Anti-Fade Weightless Argan Oil-$11.99
For the record, I definitely wouldn’t classify this as a luxury item. That being said, I am always up for new things. This product can be used on dry hair to smooth flyaways/UV protection and on damp hair to decrease frizziness, provide UV protection, and prevent breakage. I’ve actually used it a few times and so far I like it to combat flyaways and frizziness. My hair is dyed, so UV protection is important to prevent fading. I usually use Aveda’s Sun Protection line, but this will be a nice comparison. I feel like I haven’t used it enough to comment on the UV protection yet. One downside–the cherry blossom fragrance is overpowering. Luckily, it seems to fade after styling. I stuck my hair in Mr. IowaSmile’s nose and he didn’t notice and he is scent-sitive. I was glad because my first impression was “you smell like baby prostitute, no way am I smelling like this.”
OPI Nail Lacquer in Pink Outside the Glossybox – $9.50
This is a great addition to the box and super cute too! I love OPI polishes and this color is a classic neutral pink. It actually reminds me of Essie’s Ballet Slippers, but I personally prefer the OPI formula over Essie, so this is a win for me!
Vince Camuto Amore Eau de Parfum – $20?
(A full size is $78 for 3.4 oz, this is a deluxe sample size. I’m not sure what I’d value this at, maybe $20)
First off, I am a sucker for cute perfume bottles. For some reason, I like them even better when they’re miniature cute bottles. The one thing I was confused about design-wise–where is the name? It seems odd that it’s nowhere on the bottle. Anyways, enough about the design. The scent is a win, though it took a bit of time to grow on me. At first, it has strong floral notes, which I enjoy. After a couple minutes, I started to notice some super sweet sugary notes, which I have some mixed feelings about. I’m not a big fan of really sweet scents (I was traumatized by a summer spent making cotton candy when I was 16). After about 20 minutes, that cotton candy/sugary scent had faded and you could detect a mix of both the fruity/sugary and floral notes. I would definitely try wearing it for a few hours and seeing how the scent evolves before buying.
Nuxe Masque Creme Fraiche De Beaute – $32
Nuxe is a French brand started by pharmacists in the 1920s. It is sold at Dermstore.com, but I’m also pretty sure I saw it at my Target the other day. This mask is a hydration mask, so I’m not sure how much I’ll use it because my skin is oily/combo. Especially now that winter is gone, I am rarely dry. I saw online that some people had complained about the orange blossom scent, but I didn’t notice it too much when I tried this on my hand. I may give this one a go when I am traveling this month, since airplanes and different climates can make my skin dry.
Overall Impression: 7/10
There were some products I’m really excited to use, others that grew on me, and one that doesn’t really fit my needs right now. They are in a range of drugstore to high end products.
Overall Value: At least $71.50, plus the value of the sample perfume
I’d say that’s a pretty good deal for $21 spent!
